COLUMBIA — A fire on Duncan street Saturday morning caused an estimated $50,000 in damages.

Neighbors reported the house fire at 2:15 a.m.

Fire crews found smoke and flames escaping the front of the home when they arrived. The fire was controlled within 15 minutes. Fire damage was contained to the front portion of the house, but heavy smoke and heat affected the rest of the structure.

The house was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries. The cause of the fire was unknown.

This is the second fire at the property in the past year. On Sept. 29, 2009, the house was damaged when vapors in the home were ignited by a water heater pilot light.
