ST. LOUIS — A father whose car went into a river has died from the crash that already had claimed the life of his 7-month-old son.

A spokeswoman for Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis says 24-year-old Kevin Payne died Saturday night.

The vehicle went into the River Des Peres on Wednesday afternoon.

Rescuers were able to get Payne out but didn't know a baby was also strapped in a car seat. The infant was later pulled from the submerged vehicle but was dead.

The child was 7-month-old Trenton Payne.

Investigators are trying to determine what happened.
