KANSAS CITY — A federal grand jury in Kansas City has indicted a California man for having more than 500 kilograms of marijuana in his truck.

The U.S. attorney's office in Kansas City said 55-year-old Alfonso Rivera-Perez, of Los Angeles, was indicted Tuesday.

According to the indictment, Rivera-Perez was arrested near Kearney after troopers found 563 kilograms of marijuana in the back of his truck. Authorities said Rivera-Perez told officers he picked up the load in Yuma, Ariz., and was on his way to deliver it in Des Moines, Iowa, when he was arrested.
