COLUMBIA — The Boone County Relay For Life will take place from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday at the Rock Bridge High School track. In the event of rain, the relay will move indoors.

Lauren Lineweber, spokeswoman for the High Plains Divison of the American Cancer Society, said she hopes 1,600 people will come Friday. Participants do not have to sign up ahead of time or make a minimum contribution, although a $10 donation is suggested.

"We invite the entire community (to join) in the fight (against cancer) on Friday," Lineweber said. "We'd love to pack the entire track. It's not too late to sign up or come."

Lineweber said participants have raised $78,000 of the $245,000 goal as of Tuesday.  Donations may be made online, and fundraising for the event continues until Aug. 31. All proceeds go to the local branch of the American Cancer Society.
