PARK HILLS — The sheriff in St. Francois County says a federal prisoner jailed there while awaiting trial on federal charges used a piece of cloth to hang himself.

The Park Hills Daily Journal reports that deputies found the body of 38-year-old Frederick Brandon on Wednesday after other inmates notified staff. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheriff Dan Bullock says Brandon's body was found in the shower of the county jail. The piece of cloth may have come from his jail jumpsuit.

An investigation continues.

Brandon was from St. Louis. Bullock did not know what charges Brandon was facing.
