JEFFERSON CITY — The campground at a northwest Missouri state park has been closed because of potential flooding.

Big Lake State Park is located near the Missouri River about 45 miles northwest of St. Joseph.

The Department of Natural Resources closed the campground Monday and says it will remain closed at least through Thursday. The park itself remains open for day use. Cabins that sit at higher elevations also remain open.

The National Weather Service said the Missouri River was several feet above flood stage near Big Lake State Park on Monday. The river was expected to keep rising.
