POPLAR BLUFF — A landlord's inspection of a property he owns lead to the seizure of some 200 suspected marijuana plants.

The Poplar Bluff Daily American Republic reported the landlord showed Tuesday up to collect past-due rent from the tenant. Police said he entered the home to inspect its condition and found plants hanging from the ceiling and on pipes through the ceiling and into the attic.

Police were contacted and conducted a search. Officers determined the residence was used primarily for growing marijuana.

A 56-year-old St. Charles man was arrested later Tuesday. It wasn't immediately clear if charges have been filed.
