KANSAS CITY — Researchers at the University of Missouri-Kansas City have received a $1.8 million federal grant to study drug addiction and mental illnesses.

John Wang is leading the research. He and his team already have had their findings on the molecular mechanisms of addiction and mental illness published in several journals.

Wang says in a news release that conditions such as drug addiction and depression are major problems across the globe. He says his team believes their research will contribute to the development of new drug treatments that would target one type of neurotransmitter in the brain to treat the problems.
