A boil order for northeast Columbia has been extended until further notice. The following areas and subdivisions are affected:

  • Lake of the Woods
  • Mexico Gravel Road
  • Pine Grove Mobile Home Park
  • Godas
  • The Links
  • Hanover
  • Timber Ridge
  • Garden City
  • Indian Hills
  • Surrounding subdivisions
City guidelines for boiling your water

  • Boil water for three minutes before using it for cooking or drinking.
  • Do not use ice from automatic ice maker.
  • Use a bit of bleach to disinfect dishes and surfaces that come into contact with food. Immerse dishes for one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented bleach per gallon of water.

A 12-inch main broke Tuesday on Mexico Gravel Road, said Connie Kacprowicz, utility services specialist with the Water and Light Department.

Tests for water safety will take 48 hours to complete, Kacprowicz said.  At the earliest, the boil order can be lifted Thursday evening.

Kacprowicz is not sure why the main broke just two days after a 16-inch main in the same area broke. Currently, Columbia Water and Light are working to restore water service in the area.
