Purgason launches radio ads in Missouri Senate race

JEFFERSON CITY — Self-described outsider Chuck Purgason is making waves in Missouri's U.S. Senate race — the radio airwaves, that is.

Purgason has begun airing ads criticizing Republican front-runner Roy Blunt as a "Washington insider." He's seeking to tap into the antiestablishment mood that voters have displayed in other states.

Purgason, a state senator from southern Missouri, began running the spots this week in Springfield. He says they'll begin soon in Columbia and Jefferson City, with St. Louis and Kansas City to follow in coming weeks.

A campaign spokesman for Congressman Blunt did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Nor did a spokesman for Democratic front-runner Robin Carnahan, who is secretary of state.

Missouri's primary elections are Aug. 3.
