KANSAS CITY — A 19-year-old Kansas City man has died after losing control of his SUV while leading police on a high-speed chase.

Police said a 16-year-old boy passenger in the vehicle was seriously injured in the crash Friday evening. Police did not release their names.

Police told The Kansas City Star that the same vehicle had eluded officers two other times this week when they tried to pull it over for traffic violations. On Friday, the driver of the SUV took off and fled south in the northbound lanes of U.S. 71. when police initiated a pursuit.

The vehicle overturned several times, rolled over a retaining wall and landed on its top in a row of trees behind a vacant house.
