RAYTOWN — Three people have been hurt as they tried to create a massive firework in the Kansas City suburb of Raytown.

The Kansas City Star reported that the most seriously injured person was a woman who suffered severe burns and was placed in a medically induced coma. A second person was treated for injuries and released. A third person was having trouble hearing but refused medical treatment.

All three are in their late teens or early 20s.

Raytown Fire Battalion Chief Mike Hunley says they were taking fireworks apart in a Raytown bedroom when the explosive ignited.

He says the Saturday night blast blew the windows out of the bedroom, cracked the ceiling and blew the door off the hinges.
