Major case squad investigates Cape Girardeau fatal shooting

CAPE GIRARDEAU — The Cape Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad is investigating a fatal shooting that happened on the streets of Cape Girardeau.

The Southeast Missourian reported that 44-year-old Matthew Ervin of Cape Girardeau was found dead by officers early Saturday after they received a report of shots fired.

Sgt. Jason Selzer said police believe the shooting was drug-related. No suspects have been identified.

The major case squad is seeking information from people who saw or spoke with Ervin in the 24 hours before he was shot.
