Missouri transportation agency warns of paving scams

JEFFERSON CITY — Missouri transportation officials are warning people to be careful of driveway paving scams.

The Department of Transportation says Missourians should be wary of companies that come to their doorways offering prices that seem to good to be true.

MoDOT says to be especially cautious if companies claim they have extra asphalt from a previous job. That is because the workmanship can be poor, and the prices higher than initially expected.

Transportation officials say people should ask for references, solicit multiple bids and never a sign work contract that has blank portions.
