Perimeter security combined at 2 Missouri prisons

JEFFERSON CITY — Missouri prison officials are combining security at two neighboring prisons.

The Jefferson City News Tribune reported that the perimeter patrol will be combined at the Algoa Correctional Center and the Jefferson City Correctional Center. The two prisons are separated by a road and are just east of Jefferson City.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Corrections says combining perimeter security will allow the agency to save money. No changes are being made to the security inside the prisons.

Missouri has looked to trim state spending because tax revenues have declined over the past two years.
