Human remains recovered near Rock Quarry Road

On May 28, Edward Acosta was released from University Hospital. He was last seen at the Hampton Inn that night. At 7 p.m. Friday, a body was found and Acosta’s belongings were found nearby. An autopsy will be performed Monday for positive identification.

COLUMBIA — MU police contacted Columbia police at about 7 p.m. Friday to help recover the remains of a body found in a wooded area behind 1411 Rock Quarry Road.

Officers searching the area found a hat, cell phone and a bag with paperwork belonging to Edward Acosta, according a news release from the Columbia Police Department. Acosta was reported missing on May 30.

The Columbia police and the MU police found the remains in a creek bed at the base of several large bluffs.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday. A positive identification might be made pending the results of the autopsy.
