COLUMBIA — There were no injuries during a bedroom fire that occurred around midnight at 300 Allen Walkway.

The residence was unoccupied when the fire crews arrived. They found heavy smoke and fire coming from the second floor master bedroom, according to a news release from the Columbia Fire Department.

Feline Brown, 21, was at her neighbor’s apartment when Assistant Fire Marshall Stephen Potter notified her about smoke coming from her apartment. She returned and found her dog trying to escape the apartment. Brown said she heard the second floor smoke alarm going off.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated with damages estimated to be $30,000.
