Paul Szopa, Republican House of Representatives candidate for the 23rd District, has worked at Westlake Ace Hardware since 2000.

After graduating from Central Methodist College in Fayette, Szopa worked as an MU forestry and wildlife research specialist in commercial photography. He later worked at MU’s Physiology Research Center and Academic Support Center.

He has earned his Amateur Extra Class amateur radio operator's license, which allows him to operate on all amateur service frequencies. His biggest interest in radio is Morse code.

Why he’s running for office: “There’s no Republican representation in Boone County," Szopa said. "We have to maintain the Republican majority in the House because I think that’s a big reason why Missouri isn’t as bad off as a lot of the rest of the country.”
