ST. CHARLES, Mo. — With the Katy Trail and other bike paths, St. Charles County has become a popular destination for bicyclists.
But the county council is considering banning bikes from some roadways, a move that is drawing both kudos and anger.
The proposal would ban bikes from highways D, DD, F, Z and part of Route 94, mostly in the Defiance area. The roadways have no shoulders, and supporters of the ban, including sponsoring council member Joe Brazil, say biking there is unsafe for both bikes and cars.
But opponents say bicyclists shouldn't be penalized because of the impatience of car drivers.
The issue will come up again at a meeting next month.
