Rock Bridge cheerleaders set for regionals

COLUMBIA — The Rock Bridge cheerleaders are set to compete in the Northeast Regional Cheerleading Competition on Wednesday at Moberly Area Community College.

Rock Bridge is entering two squads. One with 14 girls will compete in the small division, and another with 20 girls will compete in the large division.

According to coach Jessica Cook-Kendrick, the size of the teams makes a huge difference. The large squads can make bigger pyramids to increase their score, while the smaller squads will focus more on jumps.

Rock Bridge can earn a spot in the 5-A division of the Missouri state championship competition with a top-five finish at the regional competition. The state championship is set for November at the Hearnes Center in Columbia.

Cook-Kendrick is also hoping to send her team to the National High School Cheerleading Championship in February in Dallas. She is waiting for approval from the school.
