WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE — Congressman Ike Skelton said the Navy plans to move a construction battalion to Whiteman Air Force Base in western Missouri.

The Naval Mobile Construction Battalion-15 is now stationed at the former Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base in the Kansas City area. The unit provides construction support for military operations, as well as for humanitarian and disaster response missions.

Skelton said Tuesday the move to Whiteman is contingent on congressional approval and funding for construction projects.

The unit has 17 active duty personnel and 497 reservists from Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota.
