ST. JOSEPH — A St. Joseph police officer shot and killed a man Wednesday evening after responding to a domestic disturbance call.

The St. Joseph News-Press reports the officer, a 10-year veteran, confronted a 36-year-old man who had been yelling at a woman and her baby. The man fired a shot at the officer and was struck when the officer returned fire.

Police say the person who called in the disturbance report told them the man had pulled out a gun during an incident the previous night.

The officer has been placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated. The man's identity is being withheld identified until his family is notified.
