If you’re stealing your girlfriend’s barrettes to clip your hair back or are cutting your split ends with nail clippers, it might be time to face the inevitable — you need a haircut. With haircuts costing around $20, sometimes more, you may be tempted to skip the salon to save money.

However, there is another, cheaper alternative . Sam Brown’s Cosmetology and Barber Institute offers haircuts and spa services at discounted rates because the work is performed by students learning the trade.

All sessions are supervised by an instructor. You can get a basic haircut, including a shampoo, for only $6. Manicures start at $8. Facials, makeup lessons and waxing treatments are offered as well. Sam Brown’s is open Tuesdays through Saturdays for customers, and located at 1729 W. Broadway.
