LAKE ST. LOUIS — A boat operator is facing charges after a teenager drowned in Lake St. Louis.

The accident happened early Monday, killing 17-year-old Cole Schlogl of Florissant. The teen was among seven friends who had been drinking on a boat. Schlogl and one of the others decided to swim. When Schlogl didn't return, some of the friends jumped in the water and tried without success to find him. His body was found about four hours later.

KMOX Radio reports that the boat's operator, 23-year-old David Wells of Wentzville, is charged with boating while intoxicated. It wasn't immediately clear if Wells had an attorney.
