COLUMBIA — Authorities arrested a Columbia man who they say stole a friend's car and crashed it into a ditch.

Dennis M. Forgy, 28, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of first-degree tampering and leaving the scene of an accident.

Authorities found the vehicle in a drainage ditch leading to Hinkson Creek at about 9:30 a.m. Saturday, the Boone County Sheriff's Department said in a release.

Forgy walked away from the scene after he lost control of the car and crashed it into the drainage ditch, the release said. He did not report the incident.

Forgy is being held on $9,000 bond.
