COLUMBIA — At approximately 3:40 a.m. Tuesday, a man robbed the Walgreens at 222 E. Broadway, according to a news release from the Columbia Police Department.
A man entered the business, walked to the cashier's stand, and told the cashier to empty the register into a bag with several cartons of cigarettes, according to the release. The suspect threatened to shoot the clerk if he did not comply; the cashier told police the man did not show him the gun, but he saw a firearm in the suspect's pocket.
The man took the bag and left the store after a customer approached the cashier's stand, the release said.
The clerk described the suspect as a 20- to 22-year-old black man weighing 180 pounds, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall, according to the release. He had closely shaved hair, a goatee and a tattoo on his left hand.
