Missouri State Fair opening annual run in Sedalia

SEDALIA — Missouri fairgoers are starting their annual descent on Sedalia.

The Missouri State Fair opens Thursday, and the day's scheduled highlights included the preliminary round of the Missouri State Fair Idol, a parade and a concert.

Gov. Jay Nixon planned to be at the gates Thursday morning to greet some of the first arrivals, then take part in an opening ceremony with other state officials at 10 a.m.

The State Fair runs through Aug. 22.

Major musical acts taking the stage this year will include the band Three Dog Night and singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow, who's from the Missouri Bootheel town of Kennett.
