SPRINGFIELD — A fired southwest Missouri jailer and his wife face charges after a three-month investigation into drug allegations.

The Springfield News-Leader reported that the felony methamphetamine possession and misdemeanor marijuana possession charges were filed Friday against John Nicholas Edmonds and his wife, Andrea.

Court records show that witnesses said the former jailer told them he wouldn't get in trouble for drug use because of his job. He was fired Aug. 6 after a search warrant was served at his Springfield home.

Major Kevin Spaulding said Edmonds was a model employee for his 10 to 11 years at the Greene County Jail.

He also said the investigation found no evidence of John Edmonds having drug connections within the jail.
