The Columbia Board of Education gave unanimous approval Thursday morning to a  14.8 cent increase in the tax levy for property owners in the Columbia School District.

The levy will increase from $4.77 to $4.92 per $100 assessed valuation. The new rate takes effect Dec. 31.

The owner of a $150,000 home would pay an additional $28.16 a year; a $200,000 home would cost an extra $56.32.

The adjusted levy remains below a vote-approved ceiling of $4.94.
