Missouri soldier killed in Afghanistan

FESTUS — The U.S. Defense Department says a soldier from Festus was among seven U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan last weekend.

Thirty-two-year-old Army Staff Sgt. James R. Ide was part of a unit that came under fire from insurgents in Hyderabad, Afghanistan. He was a handler of bomb-sniffing dogs.

Ide is survived by a wife and two young children, who are living in Germany.

He was assigned to the 230th Military Police Company, 95th Military Police Battalion, 18th Military Police Brigade, 21st Theater Sustainment Command, Sembach, Germany.

Funeral arrangements are pending with the Mahn Funeral Home in Festus.
