SPRINGFIELD — A former southwest Missouri correctional officer has been sentenced to a total of 45 years for a series of break-ins and rapes in Springfield.

Forty-eight-year-old Bobbie Andrew McGhee of Springfield pleaded guilty in May to raping five women over an eight-year period. Police said that in each case, McGhee wore a ski mask and forced his way into an apartment or hotel room.

KYTV-TV reports McGhee was sentenced Thursday in Greene County Circuit Court. He apologized during the proceeding, saying he had done a "horrible thing."

McGhee worked as a corrections officer at the Ozark Correctional Center near Fordland.

Springfield detectives connected McGhee to the attacks from DNA they took from utensils he used in 2008 at a Belgian Waffle House near his home.
