COLUMBIA — After losing its first two matches of the season, the Hickman girls tennis team was ecstatic to earn its first victory Thursday with a 7-2 win over Mexico at Cosmopolitan Park.

Before the match even began, several of the players said they thought it would be their day.

“We usually beat Mexico, so if we win, hopefully it will give us more confidence,” said Kewpies junior Laura Pace, who won at both No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles.

“I am just happy to see the girls hard work has paid off,” said Kewpies coach Andy Materer.
