COLUMBIA – The Hickman softball team split a doubleheader Saturday at Cosmopolitan Park, defeating Ursuline Academy from St. Louis 9-7, but falling to Wentzville’s Holt 3-1.

Against Ursuline, the Kewpies jumped to an early 5-1 lead in the first two innings only to see it evaporate in the third. By the end of the inning, the Bears had a 6-5 advantage.

The Kewpies battled back, taking the lead 9-6 in the seventh and held on in the last two innings to secure the victory.

Against Holt, the Kewpies’ offense ground to a halt in a closely contested defensive battle. The visiting Indians took a 3-1 lead in the second inning, then neither team could score again for the rest of the game.

The Kewpies record now stands at 5-4.
