Columbia College volleyball and soccer teams fall in polls

COLUMBIA —  The Columbia College volleyball team fell one spot to eighth in the NAIA top 25 after opening the season 4-1. The Cougars won their first four matches of the year before losing to the eighth-ranked team in the preseason poll, Texas-Brownsville.

Cougars sophomore setter Paula Ferreira was named the American Midwest Conference Volleyball Player of the Week after registering 171 assists in five matches. Ferreira also had 50 digs, 21 kills, five blocks and four aces.

The Cougars volleyball team will compete in the Graceland University Invitational this weekend in Lamoni, Iowa.

The Cougars soccer team fell from 14th to 19th after posting a 1-1 record to start the season. Columbia College defeated John Brown but fell to 21st-ranked Bellevue.

The Columbia College soccer team returns to action at 7 p.m. Friday when it hosts Illinois Tech.
