SEDALIA — A 44-year-old Lee's Summit man has been charged in the death of a 76-year-old woman, who was found dead in her home in Sedalia.

The victim, Rebekah Marcus, was found Tuesday in her home by her health care aide. She had been stabbed and strangled.

Daniel Maschger is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree burglary and armed criminal action in Marcus' death.

Sedalia police said Maschger had known the woman for nearly two decades. He was arrested at his Lee's Summit home on Thursday. It's unclear if he has a lawyer.

The Sedalia Democrat reports that the suspect is being held in the Pettis County jail.
