Columbia College volleyball team wins Iowa tournament

The Columbia College volleyball team went undefeated this weekend at the Graceland University Invitational in Lamoni, Iowa.

After winning its two matches Friday, the Cougars rolled on Saturday, defeating Grandview (Iowa) College 25-23, 22-25, 25-16, 25-19 and No. 15-ranked Indiana Institute of Technology 25-6, 25-21, 25-23 in the title game. The Cougars, ranked No. 8 in the NAIA, improved their record to 8-1.

Against Grandview, the Cougars were led by junior Serena Jenkins, who had 10 kills.  Sophomore Paula Ferreira passed out 36 assists and had 12 digs.  

Vesna Trivunovic pounded down 17 kills to lead Columbia College in the tournament championship against Indiana Tech. Ferreira had 28 assists and Tally Mattos added 14 digs and two aces.

After the tournament Vesna Trivunovic and Paula Ferreira were named to the all-tournament team.

The Cougars open up American Midwest Conference (AMC) play at 7 p.m. Monday when they host Missouri Baptist University in the Arena of Southwell Complex.
