COLUMBIA — Earlier this week music teachers all across Missouri received a mailing about the annual Creating Original Music Project.

Organizers of the project, jointly operated by the MU School of Music and the Sinquefield Charitable Foundation, are encouraging the teachers to have their students apply.

The music project is an annual statewide musical competition for students grades K-12. Each student submits one original composition in a variety of musical styles. The winning composers and their schools receive cash prizes, as well as the opportunity to perform at the Creating Original Music Project’s New Music Festival at MU on April 23, 2011.

The deadline for submission is Jan. 3, 2011.
