ST. LOUIS — The winner of an international competition to redesign the grounds of the Gateway Arch will be announced Friday.

The official announcement is at 10 a.m. Friday at the Old Courthouse in St. Louis. The National Park Service said Tuesday that officials will also outline the next steps in the process.

There are five finalists in the competition, sponsored by the park service and a St. Louis private foundation. Planners want to redesign the 91-acre Arch grounds in time for its 50th anniversary in 2015.

The park service estimates the work will cost $305 million.
