Forty-five dogs seized from southwest Missouri home

SPRINGFIELD — Authorities have seized 45 dogs from a home in the southwest Missouri town of Republic.

The owner, 60-year-old Gary Dotson, faces no charges stemming from Tuesday's raid. The dogs seized included boxers, Boston terriers and miniature pinschers.

But The Springfield News-Leader reported he was charged last week with operating an animal care facility as a breeder or dealer without a license.

In a separate case, animal abuse charges against Dotson were amended last week, and Dotson pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace. The newspaper reported that the charges were filed after he allegedly abandoned around 17 dogs in their cages without food or water at a Newton County property.

A phone message that The Associated Press left for Dotson on Thursday was not immediately returned.
