COLUMBIA – A man was taken to the hospital Saturday afternoon following a hit-and-run accident in downtown Columbia.

The man was struck by a black Toyota Camry in an alleyway behind Gumby’s Pizza and New Jingo’s Restaurant at 1201 E. Broadway, said Columbia Police Officer Alan Mitchell.

The Columbia Fire Department and University Hospital Ambulance Services responded to the scene, along with the Columbia Police Department, after receiving an emergency call at 2:09 p.m.

Police declined to identify the victim.

The man was evaluated at the scene, where paramedics found no obvious injuries. He was taken to the hospital as a precaution because he felt pain in his legs,  Mitchell said.

The investigation into the hit-and-run is ongoing.
