COLUMBIA — A man has been selling fake computers in Columbia parking lots, according to the Columbia Police Department.
The first incident occurred on Sept. 19, in the Petro Mart parking lot on St. Charles Road. The second occurred on Sept. 21, in the Walmart parking lot on West Broadway.
According to a department release, both incidents followed the same procedure:
The suspect said he was selling the computer to the residents at a bargain price. When the victims opened the box, all they found was a block of wood and a cut off extension cord on the top of the box, which gave the appearance that a computer was inside.
The suspect is described as a black man in his 30s, approximately 5’11”, with two gold front teeth, according to the release.
Police ask residents to call the police department at 874-7652 or Crime Stoppers at 875-tips if they have any information about the incidents.
