COLUMBIA — A Rolla man attempted to solicit sex from a Boone County Sheriff's Department detective posing as a 14-year-old girl through several online conversations, according to a Mid-Missouri Internet Crimes Task Force news release.
Boone County Court Marshals arrested James Thomas Swinney, 39, on charges of child enticement, after he turned himself in to the Boone County Circuit Court Thursday, the release stated. The court issued an arrest warrant on Sept. 30 for three counts of attempted enticement of a child less than 15 years of age. Swinney faces similar pending charges in Phelps and Christian counties, according to the release.
Swinney contacted the detective posing as the underage girl and attempted to persuade her to have sex with him in February.
Swinney was released after posting a $75,000 bond.
