SPRINGFIELD — The new $4.3 million Botanical Center in Springfield is scheduled to open Monday.

The Springfield-Greene County Parks department says the new facility at the Nathanael Greene-Close Memorial Park and Arboretum features a 12,700-square-foot building that will serve as an education center for students, gardeners and anyone else who wants to learn more about growing plants in southwest Missouri's climate.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that a free concert on Oct. 17 by Grammy Award-winner Judy Collins will also cap the weeklong grand opening for the center.
