Wednesday, October 13, 2010 | 6:17 p.m. CDT
Missouri tight end Michael Egnew was named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week Wednesday for his performance in the Tigers' 26-0 win over Colorado last Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
Egnew caught six passes for 52 yards and two touchdowns to help the Tigers win their Big 12 Conference opener. It was the first time in Egnew's college career that he scored two touchdowns.
It was also the first time that a Mizzou tight end caught two touchdown passes in one game since Chase Coffman scored twice against Kansas in the final regular season game of 2008. Coffman went on to win the John Mackey Award for top tight end in the country.
Egnew has 39 receptions on the season, which is the most for a tight end in the nation. He has racked up 350 yards and three touchdowns in five games for Mizzou, and will look to add to those totals on Saturday on the road against Texas A&M.
