Friday, October 15, 2010 | 12:43 p.m. CDT

BROWNVILLE, Neb. — The Missouri and Nebraska roads departments plan to close the U.S. Highway 136 bridge over the Missouri River for construction work this weekend.

The closure will block traffic on U.S. Highway 136 between the southeast Nebraska town of Brownville and the northwest Missouri towns of Phelps City and Rock Port.

According to Falls City radio station KLZA-FM, the departments say the bridge will close at 6 p.m. Friday and reopen at 6:30 a.m. Monday.

The contractor will be replacing a 22-foot bridge beam and painting a truss.
