7th annual Hinkson Clean Sweep keeps Columbia's streams tidy

Friday, October 15, 2010 | 4:13 p.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — The 7th annual Hinkson Clean Sweep will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at several locations throughout Columbia.

They include the MKT Trail at MLK Jr. Memorial at Battle Garden, Flat Branch Creek, Capen Park, Bear Creek, and the Hinkson Creek Valley and Seven Oaks neighborhoods.

About 450 volunteers have registered to remove trash and debris from streams and stream banks that flow into Hinkson Creek. More volunteers are welcome.

The purpose of the sweep is to raise awareness about litter that can find its way into Columbia's creeks and streams.

A picnic lunch for pre-registered volunteers, hosted by Firestone Complete Auto Care, will be at noon.
