TODAY'S QUESTION: Do you believe that MU invented homecoming?

Friday, October 22, 2010 | 12:45 p.m. CDT

Did Missouri invent homecoming?

MU would have you believe so. Other schools — Baylor, Illinois, Indiana — would have you believe otherwise. And the facts don't back up Missouri's case.

As Joan Niesen wrote this week, it's nearly impossible to refute that Indiana University created homecoming in 1910.

When a lie is repeated, at a certain point people start to believe the lie is true. Is the same thing happening with Missouri's homecoming claim?

One thing is certain: The University of Missouri really plays up homecoming. But did Chester Brewer invent homecoming when he invited alumni back for the team's annual rival game against Kansas? The university won't give a straight comment, so we'll go to the people.

Do you believe that MU invented homecoming?

("Do you believe that MU invented homecoming?")

Yes.
I also believe in Global Warming and that Al Gore invented the internet.
