Gold wins first game of Missouri baseball team's fall World Series

COLUMBIA — The Gold team defeated the Black team 7-1 in the first game of the Missouri baseball team's fall World Series on Wednesday at Taylor Stadium.
Freshman Rob Zastryzny pitched for the Gold team, allowing only one run on seven hits in five innings.
The Gold team scored three runs in the top of the fourth. Senior Andrew Thigpen and junior Ben Turner hit doubles after a leadoff single by junior Garrison McLagan. The Gold added three runs in the seventh.
The Black team outhit Gold 12-11 but left 13 runners on base. Junior Connor Mach went 4-for-4 for the Black team with a triple, double, single and a walk.
The winner of the series must win three of five games. Game 2 is set for 6 p.m. Thursday night at Taylor Stadium.
