COLUMBIA — Protect your outdoor vegetable gardens and tropical plants Thursday night if you want them to survive a forecasted freeze.

"They would probably be severely damaged by temperatures that we're going to get tonight," Chris Starbuck, MU associate professor of plant sciences, said.

The National Weather Service issued a freeze warning for nearly the entire state of Missouri. The forecast for Columbia calls for patchy frost after 2 a.m. Friday, with a light west wind and a low of 29 degrees.
