TODAY'S QUESTION: What do you think about passage of the East Area Plan?
Tuesday, November 2, 2010 | 10:24 a.m. CDT
The Columbia City Council unanimously approved the East Area Plan on Monday night, a process that has been in the works for almost two years.
The Boone County Commission begins its evaluation of the plan next week and will eventually hold a public hearing. The commission has to gather input from the public before a vote.
The plan highlights needs for changes in infrastructure, regulating commercial development, and maintaining development densities consistent with the area.
A request to rezone and develop the Richland Road area into commercial and residential space contradicts with the East Area Plan. The council is next expected to review the Richland Road plan on Dec. 5.
